adsense question?

My friend ask me a question and I have no idea what the answer could be so I was hoping maybe an expert at adsense could answer this one. This was her question: If you were to click on your adsense adds on a computer and then check your adsense account on a laptop would the people at adsense know and kick you off the adsense program? Here is the tricky part of the question, both the laptop and computer are on the same network connection so does this mean the people at adsense would know if you are cheating on your adds?

  1. Yes, they could tell - same IP address. Adsense actually looks more at whether clicks are coming from various IP's and cookies, or just a few. If you only clicked on your account at home, and clicked all the time on your ads at work or school, and noone else was really clicking, or just your friends, AdSense would note that only a few people were clicking.... and clicking often, and they would boot you. If you are going to cheat, click on it 5 times at a library, 5 times at a cafe, 5 times at home, 5 times at school/work, etc., but don't tell your entire office, sorority, or whatever to use your site as their main search engine b/c you will get caught, and don't use your laptop at all these places either... they could also be using cookies. So, as you can see, cheating is a bad idea, and an effort that's not worth it. .Not only would you have to drive to the library, etc for just a few pennies, but it's unfair to the advertisers. Instead, promote your website. Then, legitimately people will visit and click. And, you can maintain your integrity.
  2. Instead of encouraging your friend to cheat -- and what she is planning to do is to cheat -- tell her instead to focus her energies on improving her revenues: - by increasing her traffic - by improving placement of her ads to improve her click through rate (check Google's heat map as they have tested where the best placements are https://www.google.com/support/adsense/bin/answer.py?answer=17954&ctx=en:search&query=adsense+heat+map&topic=0&type=f ) - by creating more quality content What she is planning to do can get her KICKED OUT of the Adsense program as it is a violation of the Terms of Service that she agreed to do. Once kicked out, she will be banned permanently from the program. And one important thing to note -- we are talking here about Google. This is a company that prides itself with making everything complex with their algorithms. Do you think that IP address is just what they look at to see patterns of cheating? Google is much smarter than that, and they know and understand that publishers like your friend will and can cheat. I have absolutely no sympathy for cheaters, sorry, and they deserve to be booted from Adsense. They are cheating the advertisers for their own gain. Tell your friend to think twice what she plans to do.
