Website design?

Have just created my own website which i would like to use as a buisness in the future selling items related to the site- it is also a online community with a message forum called 'mad for it'. The website is aimed at over 18yrs and over. Some oppinions and advice would be most welcome as this is the first website i have set up. http://www.blokeslovelager.com/ Please feel free to view the message boards, thankyou

  2. Hi, The first thing that I noticed is that all of your links open up a new window. It's not so bad if the user has their browser set to open new windows in a new tab instead, but it can get a bit annoying haing all of these popus everywhere! Also, you should try not to use animated GIFs. They look dated and unprofessional, and can distract people from the words on your site, which isn't good if you want to use the site to sell things on at a later date. Overall, it's a fair attempt at a first site. And the forums are quite good too.
  3. I like it, but I was on it for a few minutes and still have no idea what it is about. Also, i would put a fancier title than the simple font you have. love the mouseover effects. But nonetheless too much white and empty space. otherwise ok
  4. Have a look at these websites for current trends in web design. http://www.zeldman.com/dwws/ http://www.webstandards.org/learn/faq/ http://www.456bereastreet.com/lab/developing_with_web_standards/ http://www.webstandardsawards.com/ This site also has some amazing examples of design: http://www.cssbeauty.com/ Make sure your website is audience focussed and watch for typos and poor grammar (I noticed some spelling/punctuation mistakes) which do not give a professional, polished impression. All the best
