In website design, what is the difference between a global and sectional navigation system?

I have a CSS website project for class. One of the rules is that I must have a "global navigation system and a sectional navigation system." Also, I must have "a page that lists some items for sale displayed in tabular form." Can someone tell me the differences between the two navigation systems and tell me what "tabular form" means? Is that a table and he's just using different wording? Thanks!

  1. You already know this, you're just reading into it the wrong way and making it harder than it is. That's easy to do. Think Global. Think Sectional. Global all the world. Sectional a small part of the whole. The global navigation will be used to take your users throughout the entire website. The sectional will navigate the user through that part of the website. Think about Yahoo. There are many sections and as a user you may be a member of groups, answers and email. The main page gets you to all the services which are sections. When you are in a section, the global navigator is usually at the top to get you back to the whole or global site again. While in Answers you have the answers navigator but can jump to the global navigator by going to the Yahoo link at the top left of the screen. You already are use to using global navigators and sectional navigators, you just didn't know they were called that. Tabular is basically a table. In the old days the tab key was used to make the appearance of a table. Thats where the tabular comes from. It is the representation of display data in a tabbed or table format.
