Script Garage

Is this a good idea using -php-scripts?

Can I use php-scripts to set up my business, who can I use as my host I found some scripts on http://www.best-php-scripts.com and I am thinking of using them in a commercial way which I have to pay for the license outright or monthly, is that a good idea.. I want to start a social network type thing for the culinary arts and aspiring chefs. Please tell me about hosting as I do not have my own servers and I'm expecting at least 2000 clients to sign up when i go live

  1. yes
  2. It depends on your needs. In general, ASP.NET or JSF has greater capabilities...
  3. If you want interactive web pages php is fine solution. I suggest getting a host with a Linux based server. It is what php is designed to run on. Bluehost.com is solid provider.
  4. php scripts can definitely be used to set up your business but I don't know if YOU can use them. It wont be exactly easy, especially to someone new to them. Your scripts will need to be configured it various ways most likely. Maybe you are good at following instructions and can hack through it if they provide suitable documentation. They will probably want to know what the path to sendmail is and the login for your mysql database (which you have to create first, and then create a user). Heres the thing though, the only thing you said you wanted to do was create a social network of aspiring chefs. A forum would work perfectly for that task. So if you want to try a forum, look for a web host with cpanel, fantastico, and phpbb. Cpanel is a web interface control panel for your website. Fantastico is a cpanel plugin that will install many different applications for you automatically, creating databases and such when necessary. phpbb is free forum softare. All you would have to do is log into cpanel, click fantastico, and then click to install phpbb. It will ask you about an admin user account and then after that you have a completely functional forum installed.
